ABOUT

Susan Kiskis is an author, yoga teacher, and environmental advocate. She is the creator of the Mechanicsburg Earth Day Festival, former Borough Councilperson for Mechanicsburg, and is a M.S. Global Health and M.S. Sustainable Food Systems student at Arizona State University. Her graduate work as an M.S. Global Health student at Arizona State University is focused on malnutrition and disease in women in children in tropical climates. Moving into a concurrent degree in M.S. Sustainable Food Systems, Kiskis seeks to research the intersection of food, health, and climate change. In the summer of 2023, she will live and work as an intern in Sukadana for ASRI learning about how rainforest community organic farmers perceive health impacts from organic farming followed by volunteer work at Nyaru Menteng Orangutan Sanctuary supporting endangered orangutans who are critical to the health of rainforests in Indonesia.

 

She has over two decades of experience working in natural foods and health, along with business administration and management. She is a permaculture design student at Oregon State University and works as a Program Specialist at an area library where she facilitates early childhood reading programs, cultural programs, and STEM programs which include programs on sustainability, nutrition, and environmental stewardship for children ages 0-10. She is a Graduate Student Research Assistant working on USDA's AMS Farmers Market program.

meet Susan

Susan Kiskis is an author, yoga teacher, and environmental activist and steward. Having grown up in N.Y.C. and Astoria, she learned the value from an early age about the importance of green spaces, different species, and how lifestyles and the environment impacts health. She is the creator of the Mechanicsburg Earth Day Festival, former Mechanicsburg Borough Councilperson, and has over two decades of experience working in natural foods and business management.

 

Kiskis is a graduate student at Arizona State University where she focuses on malnutrition and disease in women and children in tropical areas as an M.S. Global Health student and seeks to focus on research on the intersection of food, health, and climate change with her concurrent degree in M.S. Sustainable Food Systems. She is a Graduate Student Research Assistant on the USDA AMS Cooperative Farmers Market Research project. She was selected as a member of the 2023 cohort for Clinton Global Initiative University for her proposal Rewilding Cumberland Valley (now Growing Together). 

Kiskis is a Program Specialist for an area library where she facilitates programs for early childhood reading, cultural programs, and STEM programs which include sustainability, nutrition, and environmental stewardship to children ages 0-10. She offers community yoga programs offered on a donation basis to support a food bank in Allison Hill (Harrisburg, PA), and non-profit organizations in the U.S. and globally.

She loves to travel the world learning about how cultures around the globe eat, live, love, and share. She has visited 24 countries across 5 continents. Kiskis resides in Pennsylvania, U.S.A. with her husband Matthew in their small little oasis filled with ducks, chickens, dogs, a cat, and many species that live and thrive in the organic garden.
